Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande
Pauillac, 2nd Grand Cru Classé du Médoc (France)

Visitors cannot miss the estate’s imposing château when driving through the Médoc vineyards. Since its foundation in the 17th Century and until 2006, the estate has only passed hands within the Pichon Longueville, Lalande and Miailhe families.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, 2001
Very good. Deep garnet colour, powerful and fresh, strong tannins on the finish, balanced, can still age a few years to reveal its elegance. Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot.
(Jan 2007)

Ownership & Management

Louis Roederer Champagne (since 2006).

Consultants
Jacques Boissenot, Hubert de Boüard

Vineyard
86 ha planted with 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot. Gravel and clay soils. Manual harvesting.

Winemaking
Grapes are de-stemmed and crushed after harvesting, and poured into stainless steel vats where fermentation takes place with frequent pouring of the wine over the cap, from the bottom to the top of the vat.

After blending in December-January, the first wine is aged 18 months in medium toasted French oak barrels (50% new, 50% one-year old). The wine is fined with egg whites before bottling.
